Constructing my Music Video 2
I used the light leak and film burn effects because it is a convention of the chill genre (or other related genre, e.g ambient) and I thought it worked well with my music video. I wanted to use these effects additionally to hint at the nostalgia of the old 35mm film.

Creating Light Leak Effect - Experimentation
I decided to experiment with overlaying a light leak effect onto some of my footage. Through look at how to create the light leak effects on YouTube I gained inspiration to create my own using the '4 color gradient' effect.
I removed one of the colours from the gradient, made two of the points shades of red and the third point blue. Using key framing I changed the point positions to move around and also changed the opacity throughout the footage to make it look like an active light leak.

Importing After Effects files into Premiere
The way I found was to go to 'import' in Premiere and select an After Effects file, then select the composition file I wished to use.
I then dragged the file I wanted onto the Premiere timeline, keeping the video at full quality.

Double Exposure of Trees - Experimenting
Whilst filming in Easton, I aimed my camera up at trees as walked past them to film the tree shot.
I copied the original footage of the trees and horizontally flipped it. This was then overlapping the first copy so I learnt how to crop video in After Effects so that the two copy's of the tree footage were in symmetry with each other creating a double exposed video. It may not fully class as double exposure however I still take inspiration from the music videos I analysed to do this. I thought this edited symmetry effect looked mesmerizing and suited the patterns and manipulative look that chill genre music videos usually have.

Firework Footage - Experimenting
After I filmed some footage of fireworks in Easton, I wanted to experiment with the visuals in After Effects and I thought that this footage would look interesting in reverse so I learnt how to reverse footage from YouTube. I then found out how to crop and feather the edge of videos so that I could place two of the fire work videos next to each other.

Grain Removal
I noticed when looking at some of the footage a filmed in London that it was slightly grainy because it was a night time, so I had to put the ISO slightly higher than usual, causing grain/visual noise.
I found out how to remove this grain on YouTube to edit the footage in After Effects with the Remove Grain tool. I then adjusted the settings of the tool until enough of the grain was gone to look better quality.

Changing my Ideas
Instead of portraying the exploration of decay and life, I have chosen to only portray life and aesthetic aspects as this will work better with the genre I am being inspired by since the genre tends to focus on the positive aspects of the planet almost in an exaggerated way.
I will also change my editing from purely chronological to a more anachronic style of editing with different scenes and shots inter-crossing with eachother, which I believe will engage the audience more, bringing more mystery to what is happening and where. Also the chill genre usually adapts a more disjointed editing style.

Costume Moodboard
I chose light colourful costume pieces such as the scarf, bag, shirt and trainers because it related to the casual colourful chill music audience, who usually have casual but patterned styles which tend to look more colourful than other genres such as rock or country. I chose a long black coat to add a unique look because chill music itself is very unique and different compared to other styles of music (I was also inspired for this idea as Rachel was wearing a long black coat on the casting photo-shoot day). The coat will also contrast very well with the colours to emphasize them.
The use of a coat, bag and scarf is to enforce the idea that the character in my music video is on a journey and if someone is going on a journey a person would require objects to keep warm and the bag to carry necessary objects.

Casting
I mainly chose to cast two people for my music video by getting them to sign a participant release form which would then allow me to take some test photographs of them in different poses. I chose to cast only females not only because the audience of chill out music is predominantly female but also to add to the more stereotypical delicate aesthetic which chill out is usually associated with.
Firstly I photographed Ruby who worked well with the camera and was ready to follow
directions. She was also humorous which was helpful to have an actor who would be easy to get along.
I also photographed Rachel for casting who was very confident doing different poses whilst in the photo shoot and with some of the photographs she had the sort of expressions and costuming which I think would work well for my music video. Such as the expression of awe and looking deeply off into the distance which linked with the deeper and calm chill out music genre.

Location Scouting (Recce) and Experiments of Visual Ideas
When I went to search for the location that I would film my actor in, I went into the Norwich city centre and found multiple places which would work with my ideas.
This location has some aesthetic and interesting buildings which I can film my actor near.
There are many examples of deterioration and life such as the more dirty or run down areas in the city centre in comparison to the very green and well kept parts of the city. Additionally I think the street style of the city will work well in reflecting the chill out genre to audiences.
These are some of the photographs I took in the Norwich City Centre which show my experimentation with some of the techniques and aesthetics I will be using when I film my actual footage.
There are shots with signs of living in such as plants as well as shots with more objects of the opposite such as debris or brokenness.
I took shots of architecture which had interesting colours or shapes which made them stand out from the other buildings. I also tried the blurring technique, zooming my lens to different zoom distances and using the focus of the lens to make it out of focus.
Similarly to the street style I want to achieve in Norwich, I will also be going to central London to film footage for my music video which be primarily of various patterns, colours and lighting. I will film at night as this time is very contrasting because of the vivid lighting which is present in London.
These are the photographs from when I went to search for good material
to film, I went to Longwater at night as I thought
this may be a good place to go as there are many light shapes, colouring
and shadows.
I tested out some of the ideas I wanted to have in my music video
such as intentionally having the camera out of focus to create
different coloured rounded light shapes which looked very energetic.
Secondly I set my camera up on a tripod to time lapse the traffic
passing by down the road on the hill.
I researched into how to speed footage up in After Effects and also how to make the vehicles light streaks look longer.
After I learnt how to do this, I sped up the footage and added a 'levels' effect to makes the blacks look more rich to emphasize the overall effect. I then added the "echo" effect to the footage which echoed the vehicles lights to create longer light streaks to look more lively.
I tried another way of filming the traffic coming down the hill using the focus on my lens to focus as close as possible as it could making all of the lighting change into coloured spheres, I thought the non sped-up footage looked the best for less intese parts of the song and then I could use more time-lapse for the main built up sections of my song I am using.
I took some photographs with my phone of rain on the window of a bus I was on, these photographs show the sort of idea I want to recreate using filming, preferably I would use a narrower depth of field to emphasize the effect and lighting blur and distortion in the background.
These are some of the location shots in my village Easton. I thought this would be a good location to do visual filming because there are a couple of fields for sunrise, sunset or cloud filming.
(The two photographs on the left are of a separate field to the two photographs on the left)
Here are some photographs of the types of lighting and clouding that can occur in Easton. The vivid orange with darker pink and purple colour tones look very energetic and would work well with my music video in showing liveliness.

I would also film using a blurred focus to create colourful orb light effects which I have practised in Longwater. The look of Easton at night would suit my music video because it is very quiet and almost has a typical street style to it, which would juxtapose with the busy city centre to work with the calmer parts of the music.

Storyboard / Visual Ideas - for Concept Music Video
Please hover over the image to view Thinglink text
As my music video is going to be conceptual, I have created a storyboard built up of visual ideas instead of the conventional storyboard which would have an exact order of all shot types and locations. These sort of storyboards are found with more narrative or performance style music videos.
I will also use pans and tilts for some of these ideas, such as when my actor is shot walking around alone, these will additionally be slow camera movements to reflect the slow chilled music.
I plan to use mostly place these ideas chronologically in my music video, starting more with decay and corrosion, and then leading to more positive ideas which express the form of energy and life.
I had the idea to have my music video as if it is going through a day, starting from sunrise and ending at night. This is why the visual ideas which look better and more prominent in the dark, such as blurred lights or sped-up traffic shots, are nearer to the end of my music video, as it will end at dark.
Even though I aim to have these ideas chronologically, certain ideas will be repeated throughout the music video such as my actor walking alone exploring various places.
Some of these ideas might repeat and in addition become quicker or more intense, such as adding more effects, speeding shots up faster or cutting to different shots quicker during the more heightened sections of the music track I am using.
This suits the chill out style as it is typical to have repetition of various visuals throughout chill out music videos as well as other very similar genre music videos.

How I Prolonged the Song I Chose (Mosaik - Aerial)
The music track was a little to short to make a worthwhile music video so I found out how to prolong it within Adobe Audition.
Firstly I opened the track into Audition
I then precisely selected a certain repeatable section of the song, copied it, and then pasted it straight after it so when it plays it would not sound at all jumpy and only prolonged.
I did this a few times for the start section of the song and near the end. This screenshot shows the final extra pasted part of the song being added to prolong the song now to 2 minutes 34 seconds.

Adobe After Effects - Tutorial 1
After an initial introduction to the After Effects software I went to a After Effects class which was set up for any media students to learn more about After Effects and how to use it more successfully to implement into our music videos.
In this tutorial I learnt more about key framing as well as using "null's", which were useful for linking multiple separate objects to, so that the same effect can be applied to all these separate objects. I also found out that lines of code can be added into the software to create different effects, I used "wiggle" which was coded to the position variable, which made the text I placed wiggle about. When this coding was applied to the opacity section it had a different effect making the opacity fluctuate, so I learnt that different codes have different effects when added to different options within the text I placed.

After effects and TV Studio Introduction
Within one of our media classes a proffesional user of After Effects came in to both introduce us to what After Effects was and to also start to use After Effects in a practical way. I have previously slightly used After Effects however I only knew how to import and cut video clips and music. With this introduction I learnt how to use keyframes on both video and audio, allowing me to add video, text and shapes, as well as how to make these move, spin, have motion blur and change opacity.

I was also shown to the TV Studio where greenscreen work is created allowing people to add backgrounds behind them or even add objects infront of them. This opertunity was worth it to more understand how greenscreen works and operates, however personally I do not think I will be using greenscreen within my music video.
(This photograph of a greenscreen studio is very similar looking to the studio I visited with a camera facing central towards the main green screen area with studio lights above, which were able to be changed to suit the background which was being keyed onto the greenscreen)

Permission for using Music in my Music Video
Very early on I contacted Mosaik, an independent music composer to ask whether I could use a song from his collection of music, I contacted him through his website to which I got a reply allowing me to use any song from his five albums.
I the found another song I would possibly want to use in my music video called Heatwave by Hollow Coves.
However I will most likely use Mosaik's music as I enjoy it much more and I can imagine many more ways to create a music video out of it. I narrowed down Mosaik's music until I found my favourite song which I had clear initial ideas for in mind, I chose to use his song "Aerial".

Testing with a DSLR
This video was created in a group, we mostly made sure we new how to frame the various shot types.
We experimented with filming techniques such as pull focusing and broad/narrow depth of field.
Within editing we tested around with slowing down footage and general manipulation of video speed. Time-lapse was also used, however as the length of filming was short it would most likely be classed simply as speeding up the footage, however I still built an idea of how time-lapse would work.
This all helped me understand how to use the different techniques more effectively.
